8/7/25 Toronto Open Final Prediction

After more than one and a half weeks of scintilating tennis, the final has been set. It will be a second meeting between American Ben Shelton and Russian Karen Khachanov. Both players have had to battle to reach this stage of the tournament, and both deserve to take the trophy.

For Shelton, this will be his first Masters 1000 final, but not his first time on the big stage. The American has had to prevail through several three-setters to reach this round. With tough wins against seeded players such as Brandon Nakashima, Flavio Cobolli, Alex De Minaur, and Taylor Fritz, the American has had his fair share of difficult matches. However, he seems to be playing better and better as the tournament has gone on. He will be going into the match with a lot of momentum.

However, the same can be said for Khachanov. The Russian is into his first Masters final since he last made the Paris final in 2018 (and won it), beating Djokovic on route to the title. The Russian has had experience at these big stages, which may give him the edge against Shelton. Khachanov has been moving silently through the draw, but he made it clear that he wasn't going anywhere with an impressive three-set win against first seed Alexander Zverev. Prior to that, the Russian captured victory against the likes of Alex Michelsen, Casper Ruud, and Emilio Nava to book his spot in the final. The Russian seems to be a bit of a revenge streak.

Given the current form and confidence of both players, I think Khachanov will get the American. Shelton has had a history of capitalizing on the big moments the first time he arrives at them (winning his first 500 in his first final, winning his first title in his first final), and he will be highly confident going into this match. He also won his previous meeting against Khachanov in straights, which should give him some mental fluff.

However, I think that Khachanov will be able to ride his confidence all the way. As noted, he is on a bit of a revenge streak. Despite his losses to Ruud, Michelsen, and Zverev in their recent meetings, he has come out on top everytime. Most likely he will be feeling that he can do it once against Shelton. Especially considering his win against Zverev, who possesses a game like Shelton's, Khachanov will not be intimidated by Shelton's serve and should have the edge. I predict that Khachanov will win in three sets.

Prediction:

Khachanov def. Shelton in three
